The Wedge Classic 2010 in Plettenberg Bay was a huge success this year. Unfortunately I had to pull out at the last minute because of unforeseen work obligations, so I missed out. The waves played there part and Wesley Mc Quillan organised an amazing event that has been claimed by many to have been the best in years. I was really stoked to hear about the man on man heats and the surprise winner of the Pro division, Dylan Van Tonder. So I caught up with him…
Hey bud, How you doing? Still buzzing from an amazing win at Plett and over world tour contender Mark McCarthy?
Hey Oros! All's good here thanks...Yea, was such a hype throughout the whole contest and just soo stoked to have won it! Waves really did come to the party as well, so was glad on that too!
Did the contest go as planned for you?
To be honest, I had no game plan at all.Was just out there to see how well I could do...no intent on winning!! Haha...but friends who had watched my previous heats said that i was on the way for a win...
How did you find the man on man heats?
The man on man heats were quite rad.I find that it basically gives everyone a fair chance in the end, but would say that wave selection is vital.
Do you spend a lot of time at the Wedge during the year?
I've been in Plett a couple times this, but haven't spent much time out at wedge...The banks earlier in the year weren't even half as good as to what they are now!So will definitely be making trips out there soon!
I heard that you were riding a DK board, how’d that work?
Ya! Haha...Sean Tickner actually gave me the board at last years wedge classic and been digging it ever since! Took some time getting use to proning it, but got it down now.
The next event is the West Coast Classic, very exciting; will you be competing in that?
Yea, will be an awesome event! Waves are soo sick up that way! Shall try my best to be there!
Good Luck for that one then! Thanks man
